The
Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) is charged with administering
Medicare, the nation's largest health insurance program, to nearly 40 million
Americans. Medicare programs are health insurance plans created for people 65
years of age and older and some disabled people under the age of 65 years. Medicare
health insurance is also available to people with End-Stage Renal Disease
(permanent kidney failure treated with dialysis or a transplant).
