What is Comprehensive Car Insurance?

Posted: 10/24/2009

Comprehensive Car Insurance is insurance that is designed to cover the policyholder's vehicle from damages and loss caused by certain factors other than collision with another vehicle. Comprehensive car insurance can include coverage from theft, flood, fire, earthquakes, explosions, missiles, civil commotion and riots, animals, and falling objects. Coverage can also include other vehicles you may drive in certain limited situations. Comprehensive insurance will pay to fix your vehicles damage, less the chosen deductible, so by you taking the high deductible you can keep your premiums low but pay more out of pocket. Coverage is limited to the policies terms and conditions, and is not required in all states. If you are applying for a loan or lease, you will be required to show proof that you have comprehensive coverage.
