Can I Buy a Car Without Auto Insurance?

Posted: 11/12/2009
The correct answer is both yes and no. Yes if you are planning to buy a vehicle without a loan, you can typically purchase the vehicle without having auto insurance. Then no if you are going to lease or finance a vehicle because your lender or lease contract will require you to have auto insurance. It is true that in most states you can actually operate a motor vehicle without auto insurance, but you cannot register the vehicle for the first time without proof of valid insurance. Not to mention that without insurance you would not be covered against loss or theft. Best advice, get auto insurance.
